I remember when I was pregnant with my first son and had absolutely no idea what I was looking for in a newborn photographer. I just ended up hiring my wedding photographer because I had absolutely no idea who to trust, what to look for in a photographer, or even what style of photography I was looking for! Lucky enough, she was super talented, but many people I know haven’t ended up quite so lucky in their experiences!
Let’s dive into some of the most common questions about newborn photography.
“What should I look for when hiring a newborn photographer?”
It’s important to choose a photographer who specializes in newborn photography and has experience working with infants. At my studio, I have years of experience working with newborns and their families. I’m dedicated to providing a comfortable, safe, and enjoyable experience for you and your baby. I understand the importance of capturing these early moments, and I take pride in creating beautiful, timeless memories that you’ll cherish for years to come.
“What can I expect during a newborn photography session?”
During a newborn photography session, I’ll work to create a comfortable and safe environment for your baby, and guide you through the posing process. You can include your family members in the photos, and I encourage parents and siblings to participate in this special moment. If you have any specific poses or props in mind, I’m always happy to incorporate your ideas and preferences into the session.
To capture the best moments, I personally recommend having your newborn session take place between 8-21 days after baby is born. I recommend booking your session as soon as possible during your pregnancy to ensure availability. Since baby’s come on their own timelines, I only take so many babies each month to ensure I have availability to take on sessions once babies arrive.
When my clients arrive to my newborn photography studio, they’ll find it’s dimly lit and warm, a perfect environment to promote a sleepy newborn. Baby is the boss during the session, but with my years of experience I’ve got a workflow down that helps them settle into a deep sleep so we can snuggle and pose them in the sweetest positions.
“Do I need to bring anything to my Mechanicsburg newborn session?”
You don’t need to bring much to the session as most of the items your baby will need will be provided by the studio, including props, backdrops, and blankets. I may have a bit of a shopping addiction and have a beautiful array of swaddles, headbands, bonnets, outfits, props, and backdrops to deliver you the ultimate Mechanicsburg newborn photography experience.
Before your session I’ll have you fill out a questionnaire that goes over colors you love, colors you’d like to avoid, poses you’d like to see, and generally get a great idea of the vibe of the session you’re looking for!
“When will I get my photos?”
After the session, you can expect to receive previews on social media (if you give permission) within a few days. Then you’ll get a gallery of unedited images to look through and choose your very favorites. I offer a range of packages that include both digital files and prints. Once you’ve chosen your collection of favorite images, I get to work putting the finishing touches on your images and you have them back within around 2-3 weeks of your session! I hate to keep you waiting because I know just how excited you are to receive these beautiful images.
“How much does newborn photography cost?”
Mechanicsburg newborn photography sessions can range from $500 to $1500, depending on the package. I know this might seem like a significant investment, but keep in mind that newborn photography is a specialized service that requires a lot of time, effort, and equipment. I’m dedicated to providing high-quality images & products that you’ll cherish for a lifetime! Photos are one of the only things you’ll buy for your baby that get more valuable with each passing year.
Each photographer has their own costs of running their business and overhead to cover, but I do try to create collections that can fit with different budgets so that you can enjoy beautiful newborn photos no matter what.
My packages come in a variety of image sizes so you can get a few or get a lot. I do not require my clients to purchase prints and products from me, but I do think it makes a huge difference to get quality images that will withstand the test of time. Plus, as a new mom the very last thing you need to worry about is sitting down at a computer and taking hours to order images, canvases, and albums while ensuring you’ve done the right crops and uploaded correct image sizes and color spaces!
