Outdoor Photography Locations in the Susquehanna Valley

September has begun and Fall has officially arrived in Central Pennsylvania; the leaves have started changing and pumpkin spice has made its long awaited return. There are so many beautiful places to capture memories throughout the Susquehanna Valley, and I want to share four of my favorite Outdoor Fall Photography Locations with you.

Fort Hunter Mansion & Park

5300 N Front Street, Harrisburg, PA
Explore here: https://forthunter.org/

Deeply rooted in Pennsylvania history, originally settled in 1725, Fort Hunter is nestled on forty acres along the Susquehanna River in Harrisburg. Today, Fort Hunter provides a beautiful space for events, backdrops for outdoor photography and a peaceful family day in the park. Position yourself with the river as your backdrop or setup and enjoy a session during a family picnic on the lawn; the possibilities are endless!

John C. Rudy Park

400 Mundis Race Road, York PA  17406
Explore here: https://yorkcountypa.gov/680/John-C-Rudy-Park

You won’t find it unless you’re looking for it, but once you’re there you’ll be glad you made the trip! John C. Rudy Park is located in York and sits on 150 beautiful acres of land. There are sports fields, playgrounds, walking trails and multiple pavilions that can be rented for events or used for outdoor photography. The wooded trails, covered with fall foliage and the rustic barn make the perfect backdrop for your family’s memories!

Yellow Breeches @ Messiah College

One College Ave, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055

The Messiah campus is beautiful all year round, but especially during the fall. Capture your family in front of the covered bridge with fall foliage all around or walk along the Yellow Breeches Creek with the water flowing. With so many locations and scenery to choose from, especially in the fall, Messiah is the perfect place for your outdoor photography session to capture your family.

Vincent DiFilippo Nature Preserve

110 Sample Bridge Rd, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050
Explore here: https://www.sstwp.org/Facilities/Facility/Details/Vincent-DiFilippo-Nature-Preserve-11

Some people live here their whole lives and don’t even know this nature preserve exists! There are walking trails and spaces to kayak & fish. You can even spot a Bald Eagles’ nest along one of the walking trails! The nature preserve is the perfect location for your family’s outdoor photography session; it allows a natural backdrop while giving space for little ones to roam around and play. Natural photos in such a peaceful place!
