If trying to choose outfits for photos feels like that moment when you’re standing in front of your closet thinking “I have nothing to wear,” you are not alone. Especially as a brand new mom when your body just did a whole miracle and nothing fits the same way anymore.
So let’s make this super easy. Because newborn photos should feel calm and comfortable. And what you wear plays a big part in that.
Neutrals are your best friend

Soft tones like cream, oatmeal, white, taupe, and dusty pastels photograph beautifully. They keep the focus on your baby’s sweet features—not bright colors or graphic prints.
They also blend seamlessly with:
• My studio’s neutral, timeless aesthetic
• Cozy in-home sessions around Mechanicsburg and Hershey
Moms: choose comfort first

Flowy dresses and soft knits are perfect right after birth. No stiff waistbands, no pulling or tugging. Just gently flattering pieces that help you feel like you again.
✅ Bonus: My studio wardrobe includes beautiful dresses in a range of sizes that photograph like a dream. You don’t need to buy anything new.
Dads + Partners: keep it simple

Solid tees or henleys in earthy neutrals work perfectly.
Avoid:
• Logos
• Bright colors
• Athletic material
• Button-downs that wrinkle easily
When in doubt, think cozy, clean, and classic.
Siblings: soft and simple

If big brother or sister is joining, we’ll keep them comfy too. Think:
• Solid onesies
• Knit rompers
• Soft textures
• Bare feet (always adorable)
Avoid:
• Busy patterns
• Neon colors
• Clothes with characters
A soft palette helps everything feel cohesive and calm.
Outfits for baby: less is more

Your baby is the star of the show. Newborns photograph best in:
• Soft wraps
• Simple onesies
• Nothing at all (with careful posing + warmth)
I provide everything for baby during your session, including:
✅ Wraps
✅ Knit outfits
✅ Headbands + bonnets
No need to bring anything unless you want a meaningful item included.
Texture over pattern
Textures like cotton, linen, and knits bring depth and softness to photos. Patterns can distract—especially stripes or bold florals.
If you love florals, choose tiny ones that feel delicate and subtle.
Remove watches + fitness trackers
It sounds small, but those things stick out so much in close newborn shots. Slip them off before the session begins.
Quick checklist ✅
Here’s everything you really need:
Mom:
• Light neutral dress (or borrow from my studio closet)
Dad:
• Solid neutral shirt / henley + neutral pants
Baby:
• I’ve got them fully covered
Siblings:
• Soft neutral outfits + bare feet
Boom. Done.
One last thing…

If you’re expecting a baby in Mechanicsburg, Hershey, or anywhere in Central PA, I’d love to help you create newborn photos you’ll treasure forever.

FAQ Section
How do I know what will look good on camera?
I help style your entire family and guide you through selections that flatter your postpartum body and photograph beautifully.
Can we wear black or dark colors?
Light neutrals work best with my editing style and help keep the focus on the baby. If dad prefers dark tones, we’ll choose soft charcoal or warm gray.
What should siblings wear?
Simple soft pieces like knit rompers or neutral tees, and bare feet for the win. No characters or neon.
What if the outfit I picked doesn’t fit?
Newborn bodies surprise us sometimes. I have a full wardrobe of wraps and outfits in the studio so we can always pivot.
Do I have to shop for anything?
Nope. You’re welcome to, but my studio closet has beautiful dress options for moms and everything baby needs.
