There’s always something so magical about capturing a newborn session in my York, PA studio. New parents buzzing with excitement to proudly show off their newborn baby boy, snuggling a squishy newborn, and the fun of the unknown. Each newborn session in my photography studio is a new and exciting adventure. They’re always different, with each baby having their own unique preferences of how they like to be snuggled, if they like their hands to be touched or fussed with, and if they prefer being swaddled or not. Luckily, with my years of newborn photography experience and being a mom of three young children myself, I’m always able to adapt each session to suit your new baby.
WHAT’S A SESSION LIKE?
Each session starts off with me assessing your baby’s needs. Have they eaten recently? Are they awake or asleep? Do they need a diaper change? Your baby is the boss during their York newborn session, so I will always adapt my workflow to suit them. If they need to eat, we will start the session by getting them a full belly. Needing a diaper change? Let’s get them a fresh booty!
My newborn photography studio is kept a cozy, warm temperature and the lights are kept very low to promote a calm, sleepy baby. If your little one arrives awake and they’ve been fed and changed, usually I will start by swaddling them up. This snuggly wrapping usually induces sleep and relaxation which allows me to move on to other poses as the session progresses.
WILLIAM’S SESSION
Check out these photos from sweet newborn baby boy William’s studio session. He arrived awake and I wasn’t sure if he was going to fall asleep for me or not. But after some sweet snuggles, some shushing, and a cozy swaddle…he dozed off into a peaceful newborn sleep and allowed me to capture him looking absolutely precious throughout his entire newborn session.
I started out swaddling him in the deep green swaddle and placed him in the Luneberry moon prop. Mom had sent this pose to me as inspiration from her session that she had seen me share from another one of my sessions. He was happy as can be in a criss cross swaddle, snoozing peacefully in the moon prop.
After capturing different angles in the moon and getting some photos of him wearing a sweet color coordinated bonnet, I was able to unswaddle him and move over to my posing table to capture some adorable newborn baby poses such as bum up and the classic pose.
William did not like his hands being touched and would often stir a bit when I went to fix his little fingers. It’s these tiny details that I notice and want to perfect that most parents may never notice, but I will! So I do my best to get baby posed, but sometimes we just have to go with the flow and accept not to mess with their hands too much!
After finishing his posed photos, I did dress him in the snuggly, fuzzy alpaca fur romper that his mama had also sent me she had loved. I placed him in the basket with the deer lovey (shown above) and then we moved on to parent photos. William’s mom & dad chose my lifestyle newborn studio set for their family photos. I offer both this set as well as more traditional posed family photos on a solid background in my York, PA newborn photography studio.
We were able to capture photos of him snuggled with dad solo and also mom solo. We then got family photos together to finish out the session! By the time we wrapped up, little dude was hungry so he got to enjoy some snuggles with his mama and a warm lunch before they packed up to head back home and anxiously await the final products of their session!
William’s York newborn photography session took a little over 2 hours, which is the sweet spot of time I like to have to capture baby solo and family photos. Of course, each baby takes a different amount of time to settle between poses and no two sessions are ever the same! Some sessions flow quickly and some take longer, but regardless I ensure that each of my newborn photography clients get the care, attention to detail, and baby focused quality that they deserve when they book a session with Kate McCord Photography! Baby’s comfort and safety is my number one priority and I always strive to ensure the new parents can relax knowing their baby is in the best hands possible!
