There is something especially sweet about photographing first-time parents, especially during a golden hour maternity session.
Everything is new. Every kick is exciting. Every conversation seems to circle back to the little person they’re about to meet. During this recent golden hour maternity session in Central PA, it was obvious these two are soaking in every moment as they prepare to welcome their first baby, a little girl who is already so loved.
As the sun dropped lower in the sky, the entire field was covered in warm golden light. The soft glow created the perfect backdrop for a maternity session focused on connection, anticipation, and the excitement of becoming parents.
One of my favorite things about this session was watching dad interact with mom and baby. You could already see the protective, loving energy he brings to their growing family. If there’s one thing I’m sure of, it’s that this little girl is going to have a dad completely wrapped around her finger.
The combination of the flowing white skirt, casual denim shirt, and golden evening light created a timeless look that kept the focus exactly where it belonged: on the incredible journey into parenthood.
This session was especially meaningful for me because I have had the honor of photographing these two before. In November 2025, I captured their wedding day at Stock’s Manor, and now I get to document the next chapter of their story as they prepare to welcome their first baby girl. One of the greatest gifts of being a photographer is getting a front-row seat to life’s biggest milestones, and watching families grow from newlyweds to parents never gets old. Seeing them together during this session brought back so many memories from their wedding day, and I couldn’t be more excited for them.

Why Golden Hour is Perfect for Maternity Photos
Golden hour remains one of my favorite times to photograph maternity sessions in the Harrisburg and York areas. The light is softer, more flattering, and creates the dreamy warmth that pairs beautifully with pregnancy portraits.
Benefits of a golden hour maternity session include:
- Soft, flattering light
- Beautiful sun flare and glowing backgrounds
- Comfortable temperatures during warmer months
- Romantic, timeless images
- Natural opportunities for connection and movement

Celebrating the Season Before Everything Changes
One of the things I always encourage expectant parents to remember is that maternity photos aren’t just about documenting a baby bump.
They’re about capturing this chapter.
The quiet moments before sleepless nights.
The excitement of wondering who your baby will look like.
The anticipation of meeting the little person who is about to change your world forever.
For first-time parents especially, this season passes incredibly fast.
Soon they’ll be holding their daughter in their arms instead of imagining her face.
And that’s exactly why these photographs matter.
In just a few short weeks, they’ll go from counting kicks and dreaming about their daughter to holding her in their arms. I already know she is joining a family filled with so much love, and I truly cannot wait to meet her for her newborn session. Being trusted to photograph their wedding, maternity session, and soon their baby’s first portraits is something I don’t take for granted. It’s one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
Maternity Photography in Harrisburg, York & Central PA
I photograph maternity sessions throughout Harrisburg, Hershey, Mechanicsburg, Camp Hill, York, and surrounding Central Pennsylvania communities. Most maternity sessions take place between 28 and 34 weeks, when baby bumps are beautifully visible while moms are still comfortable enough to enjoy the experience.
If you’re expecting this summer or fall and thinking about maternity photos, now is the perfect time to reserve your session and document this once-in-a-lifetime season before your little one arrives.
