One Silly Goose Cake Smash Session in York PA

When I first met this little guy’s family at my fall mini sessions, I had no idea how many times I’d get to see them over the next year. Since then, I’ve had the joy of photographing them for Christmas pajama photos, family photos, and now Trey’s One Silly Goose cake smash!

The Joy of Being a Photographer for Life

One of my favorite parts of being a York PA cake smash photographer is getting to watch families grow. There is something so special about seeing familiar faces walk through my studio doors again and again. By the time a baby’s first birthday rolls around, they don’t feel like strangers anymore. They feel like friends.

This family is exactly that kind of family. They are incredibly kind, they truly value preserving memories, and it has been such a pleasure getting to document this season of their lives. Watching baby grow from a tiny baby into an energetic one-year-old has been so much fun.

For his cake smash, his parents chose one of the cutest themes I’ve seen this year: One Silly Goose.

And honestly? I’m obsessed.

The soft colors, playful details, and sweet little goose theme made for such a fun setup. This was actually my first One Silly Goose cake smash session, and I can definitely see why it’s become so popular.

Cake Smashes – Hard to Predict

One thing I love about cake smashes is that no two sessions are ever the same. You can plan the perfect theme, order the cutest cake, and create a beautiful setup, but you never know how a baby is going to react when that cake is placed in front of them.

Some babies dive right in.

Some babies cautiously poke the icing with one finger.

Some babies cry.

Some babies eat the entire cake.

And some babies spend most of the session trying to escape the set.

That’s part of the fun.

Every cake smash session ends up reflecting your baby’s unique personality, and that’s what makes these sessions so memorable.

For this session (as with all my cake smashes!), the beautiful cake was created by Wesley Made Sweets, who always does an incredible job bringing these birthday themes to life.

Themed Cake Smash Sessions

I also love being able to offer unique setups without filling my studio with endless bins of props and decorations. Many of my birthday backdrops come from Fancy Fabric & Props, which allows me to create customized, themed cake smash sessions while keeping the focus on your baby.

The result is a clean, timeless look that photographs beautifully and helps each birthday session feel unique.

By the end of the session, little dude had everyone smiling. There were plenty of silly expressions, messy fingers, and sweet moments that perfectly captured this milestone.

These first years go by unbelievably fast. One minute you’re bringing your newborn home from the hospital, and the next you’re celebrating their first birthday.

I’m so grateful this family trusted me to document so many of those moments along the way.

Happy First Birthday, buddy!

Frequently Asked Questions About Cake Smash Sessions

When should I book my cake smash session?

I recommend booking your cake smash session about 2-3 months before your baby’s birthday. Most parents schedule the session when baby is around 11 months old so photos are ready in time for birthday invitations, parties, and social media announcements.

Do I need to bring the cake?

Nope! I handle coordinating the cake for you. My cakes are created by Wesley Made Sweets and designed to match your chosen theme.

What should my baby wear?

I provide styling guidance and can help coordinate outfits that match your theme. Simpler outfits often photograph best because they keep the focus on your baby’s expressions and personality.

What happens if my baby hates the cake?

It happens more often than you might think! The good news is that we always start with clean portraits before introducing the cake. Whether your baby loves the cake, ignores it, or cries the entire time, we can still create beautiful images that you’ll treasure.

Can I choose my own theme?

Absolutely! One of my favorite parts of planning cake smash sessions is helping families bring their theme ideas to life. Whether you want something classic, whimsical, trendy, or completely unique, we can create a setup that celebrates your little one’s personality.

Do parents and siblings get to be in any photos?

Cake smash sessions are designed to focus on your birthday baby, but family portraits can absolutely be added before the cake smash portion of the session if you’d like.
